Parliament has today approved Gen Kale Kayihura’s three contract followed his reappointment by President Museveni.
Gen Kayihura who took over from Gen Katumba Wamala in 2005 is the longest serving Inspector General of Police.
He was expected to face hostility from law makers following the recent wave of armed robbery and murder of prominent Ugandans including the recent killing of Assistant Inspector of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi in march.
Despite the above, it appeared that tho MPs opposed to Gen Kayihura’s new contract had little influence.
In a March 14 letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, President Museveni reappointed Gen Kayihura to lead the police force, a sign that the Commander in Chief was happy with Gen Kayihura’s work.
Despite the President’s approval, the opposition have always accused Gen Kayihura of being an NRM leaning IGP.
