The incoming United States ambassador to Uganda, Ms Natalie Brown, has been sworn in and will soon arrive in Kampala to assume her duties.
Ms Brown tweeted on Monday, thanking the police in Omaha, US, for facilitating her swearing-in ceremony.
“So deeply appreciative of Police Federal Credit Union of Omaha for hosting and facilitating my swearing-in as the next United States Ambassador to Uganda. I was so touched by friends from around the world who attended virtually. I am excited to get to work. Look for me soon as US ambassador to Uganda,” Ms Brown tweeted.
She replaces Ms Deborah Malac who had served in Uganda for four years. Ms Brown has taken over her job as both Uganda and the US prepare for elections.
The United States provides significant development and security assistance to Uganda worth more than $970m (about Shs3.3 trillion) annually. Ms Brown was nominated ambassador to Uganda in 2019 and was confirmed in August this year. Before her posting to Uganda, she worked as chief of mission of the US Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, since 2016.
According to her profile posted on the US Department of State website, she had previously served as deputy permanent representative and deputy chief of mission of the US Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, Italy, from 2013 to 2016.
Ms Brown also served as deputy chief of mission of US Embassy in Tunisia from 2010 to 2013. During early days of her career, Ms Brown worked as the economic counselor of the US Embassy in Jordan and as the political chief of the US Embassy in Kuwait.
In Washington, she served as a senior watch officer in the State Department Executive Secretariat’s operations centre, and as an international affairs officer in the Office of UN Political Affairs in the Bureau of International Organisation Affairs. She was the State Department’s desk officer for Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.
