Gen Kayihura camps in Gulu as security situation deteriorates

Museveni told Kayihura in MArch to clean his house

Once fronted as the number one achievement of the current government, the security of person and property has slowly deteriorated.

This can be evidenced by the recent spate of murders of both prominent and ordinary Ugandans.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, has now pitched camp in Gulu Municipality following killing of the Gulu Municipality deputy Town Clerk John Oola by suspected iron bar hit men on Tuesday morning.

The deceased had just dropped off a female friend who is believed to have been involved in an intimate relationship.

After dropping the lady, Mr Oola was attacked and killed by the unknown assailants.

Gen Kayihura spent most of Thursday touring and interrogating police officers in Gulu accusing them of laxity in ensuring security of persons and property, a key mandate of the police force.

Gen Kayihura was then guided to the scene of crime where the assailants killed Mr Oola which is about three kilometers from Gulu town.

The IGP cautioned the district leaders including the Gulu District Police Commander Martin Okoyo, and the Resident District Commissioner Capt Santos Okot Lapolo, Bar-dege. He urged them to step up their role in ensuring security of the area.
