Uganda’s long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has secured a second medal for Uganda at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after winning the men’s 10,000m final to take gold.
Kiplimo, 21, broke gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei’s 10,000m record in a stunning time of 27:09:19.
“I am very excited….today I knew I would win because I saw the pace was a little bit slow,” said Kiplimo while speaking after winning the race Tuesday night.
On crossing the line to finish ahead of Kenyan pair Daniel Ebenyo and Kibiwott Kandie, Kiplimo celebrated with a dance before telling journalists “I think for me winning this Commonwealth Games title was everything, the most important thing for me this season.”
“But I still have a lot of things to do in the future at the Olympics and world championships,” added Kiplimo who took bronze at the recent world championships.
