President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has officially been nominated to contest in the 2026 General Election, marking the formal start of his campaign for a seventh consecutive term in office.

The nomination reaffirms his position as the flagbearer of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which earlier this year endorsed him as its sole candidate.

According to party officials, more than 2.2 million signatures were collected nationwide in support of his candidature, a figure that was today validated by the Electoral Commission.

Museveni, accompanied by his wife and Minister of Education Janet Kataaha Museveni, NRM First Vice Chairperson Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, and Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, pledged to “protect Uganda’s hard-won gains and guarantee continued progress.”

Later this afternoon, the President will address supporters at a post-nomination rally at Kololo Independence Grounds, where he is expected to officially launch his campaign manifesto.

Festivities have already erupted in Kampala, with thousands of enthusiastic supporters awaiting his arrival. The rally will feature performances from more than 20 entertainers, including singers, dancers, and comedians.

Among the headline acts is long-time NRM supporter Moses Ssali (Bebe Cool), who will perform alongside celebrated artists such as Dr. Jose Chameleone, Ray G, Alien Skin, and Weasel Manizo.
