President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged local leaders in the Rwenzori sub-region to avoid handling multiple responsibilities at once, warning that multitasking often leads to inefficiency and increased mistakes.
Instead, he advised that focusing on a single task at a time enhances concentration, productivity, and overall quality of work.
The President made these remarks during a leadership meeting held yesterday at Bumadu Primary School in Bundibugyo District. The gathering was part of his ongoing Presidential performance assessment tour on wealth creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM) across the Rwenzori sub-region.
“What helped the NRM Government achieve its goals was our focus on one task at a time. When you multitask, you cannot manage effectively. For example, in maintaining peace at the borders, we succeeded through policy, ideology, and prioritization,” he said.
President Museveni also spoke on national peace efforts, highlighting the inclusive recruitment of army personnel without discrimination. He noted that soldiers are not only trained and armed, but also paid salaries and have their children educated in army schools free of charge. This model, he explained, has helped build a strong, impartial, and professional army that continues to maintain peace in the region.
On the issue of international peacekeeping efforts in Africa, the President expressed doubts about the effectiveness of foreign bodies like the UN.
“How can the United Nations keep the peace of a nation that isn’t theirs? The hairstyle is determined by the shape of the head. There is much to be done, but you have to prioritize,” he remarked.
President Museveni acknowledged notable progress in the sub-region, particularly in household income generation. However, he emphasized that many residents are still not making full use of available land.
He shared success stories from local PDM beneficiaries to inspire better land utilization. Among those mentioned were Bernard Kacuuro, a cocoa and palm oil farmer in Bundibugyo; Steven Kisembo, a goat farmer in Ntoroko; Pelucy Biira, a poultry entrepreneur in Kasese; and Richard Nyakana from Rwengaju in Fort Portal. The President reiterated the benefits of the profitable 4-acre model of farming.
In response to local leaders’ concerns about poor road infrastructure, he announced that road improvement works in Bundibugyo will commence in July 2025.
On education, the President expressed disappointment over the region’s failure to fully realize the objectives of Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE). Nonetheless, he remained optimistic, citing the impact of the government’s Skilling Hubs, which have equipped school dropouts with practical skills and improved livelihoods.
To support community development, the President pledged to donate Shs20 million to each religious SACCO from the Anglican, Catholic, Pentecostal, Muslim, and Owobusobozi faith groups.
In recognition of the contribution of LC1 Chairpersons in grassroots governance, the President also gifted a motorcycle to the LC1 Chairperson in attendance.
During the meeting, leaders pledged their continued support for President Museveni and endorsed him as the sole NRM flag bearer for the 2026 elections.
The event was graced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, along with Ministers, Members of Parliament, District Chairpersons, Councillors, NRM leaders, and representatives from Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba and Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu.
