The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Wilson Mbadi, has thanked the outgoing commandant of the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College (USCSC), Lt Gen Andrew Gutti, for his leadership of the training facility.

USCSC is a training facility for senior commanders in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), including the army, air force, and special forces. It will soon be celebrating 20 years of existence.

The college was established in 2003. The first commandant was the late Major General Benon Biraaro.

Mbadi applauded Gutti as he handed over to the incoming commandant, Maj Gen George Igumba.

The CDF noted that the more the UDPF excels in training, the more this excellence is reflected in battle. This precept, he said, speaks to Kimaka’s Motto “Ad Bellum Pacis Causa” loosely translated as “For the cause of Peace, we go to War”.

This has been possible due to team work and good plans,” Mbadi observed while praising Guti’s leadership.

The CDF said the training facility’s curriculum should be expanded beyond military subjects to embrace the preparedness to combat natural disasters, food insecurity and unemployment among others.

Mbadi also noted the number of officers who have not yet attended the Senior Command and Staff Course, revealing that their admission is circumscribed by limited resources and infrastructural challenges.

In terms of the facility’s expansion, Mbadi said it should allow for at least 100 students per intake. The college currently trains up to 45 students annually.

Both the outgoing and incoming commandant applauded the UPDF leadership and the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief, Yoweri Museveni, for entrusting them with the leadership of the training facility.
