Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament Anita Among has been unanimously endorsed by the NRM Parliamentary Caucus for the speakership race at the Kololo ceremonial grounds.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) top organ, Central Executive Committee (CEC), Wednesday endorsed Ms Anita Among, the Bukedea Woman MP and deputy speaker, to contest as the party’s flag bearer in the race for Speaker of the 11th Parliament.

Ms Among, who became Deputy Speaker in May last year, has presided over most parliamentary business due to the health challenges that dogged Oulanyah’s short time as the head of the Legislature.

Unlike members of the cabinet, Among is not required by the constitution to first resign her position as Deputy Speaker before running for speakership.

The Speaker’s seat became vacant on Sunday following the passing of Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori who has been occupying it since May 2021.
