Gov’t construction of roads in Congo to boost development and diversification of goods and services

The Cabinet Minister for Trade, Investments and Cooperation Hon. Amelia Anne Kyambadde is given praised government for the continued spirit of brotherhood depicted towards neighbours.

Amelia made this comment while addressing journalists at Media Centre in Kampala on the Impact of Uganda-DR Congo Road Construction on Trade.

In cognizance of the low levels of trade and Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) to trade surrounding it; the two Governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The areas of cooperation include, among others: Elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs)to trade; Promotion of cross border trade and investments; Standards development and harmonization, including mutual recognition; Customs/immigration issues.” She noted.

 

During the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) Meeting in November 2019 between the two countries and subsequent State Visit of H.E. Felix Thsesikedi to Uganda; it emerged that infrastructure is the major impediment to trade between the two countries.

It was agreed that in order to address the impediments identified, both countries were to jointly raise funds and construct the following roads. Budiba Bridge across River Semuliki with Rwebisengo – Budiba – Bunia Access Road(78km) Mpondwe/Kasindi – Beni Road (77km).
