Police Constable Dies After Shooting Self in The Neck

Residents of Hima town council in Kasese District are in shock following the death of a policeman who is said to have shot himself at the Hima Police Division.

 According to the Hima town council vice chairperson, Mr Christopher Happy, the incident happened at around 9pm on Monday.

He said town council authorities are concerned about the incident since many people are scared.

“If people who are supposed to protect us start shooting themselves, then there is a reason for us to fear,” Mr Happy said.

Mr Deus Kamusiime, the LCI chairperson for Town center zone who rushed to the scene after the said shooting told this reporter that when he reached the gate he found several officers and soldiers who had sealed off the crime scene.

The deceased officer, identified as Francis Madici, was attached to the field force unit.

The motive of his death remains unclear but investigations are underway, Police said.

Mr Kamusiime said Madici shot himself in the neck with an AK47 rifle.

Police sources said constable Madici, a born of Anganwa village in Arua District.

The Rwenzori East Regional police commander, Mr Samuel Asiimwe confirmed the incident but declined to divulge more details saying that police were still investigating the matter.

“ It is true but police is already investigating the matter,” Asiimwe said.
