Former spy Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu has Monday afternoon been duly nominated to challenge his former Commander in Chief in the 2021 General elections.
Tumukunde who has previously served the NRM government in different respects was declared a Presidential candidate the Electoral Commission boss Justice Simon Mugyenyi Byabakama.
Prior to his nomination, the electoral committee first rejected his documents saying there was a slight anomaly in his documents.
“There is an anomaly but it can be fixed,” Byabakama said before sending the aspirant to the Commissioner of oaths.
At exactly 2:06 PM, Tumukunde had already returned to the nomination grounds where he selected the clock as his campaign sign.
“We have verified the documents of Gen Tumukunde and they are in order. I hereby declare Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu a duly nominated candidate for Presidency having fulfilled all the requirements,” Byabakama said at 2:20PM.
Threats to Pull Out of the race.
Earlier, while speaking to journalists at his home based office in Kololo, Tumukunde threatened to pull out of the presidential race if the ground continues to stay ‘unleveled’ and deny him chance to ably pass on message to his supporters to vote him into power in the 2021 general elections.
“We shall continue struggling but should we in the process of this exercise find that we are not doing anything like an election, some of us may have to choose to leave and not legitimacy to what otherwise is not an election,” Gen Tumukunde said.
After his nomination, as a standard procedure the General was handed a security detail and a car which he will use in his campaigns.
