Former Makerere University researcher and aspiring Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Dr Stella Nyanzi has been arrested together with other Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party officials.

These were all picked up by police in Kampala as they attempted to march to Parliament to protest Government’s recent decision to construct a 223km road network inside Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Some of the prominent FDC officials arrested with Nyanzi is the party deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija and Habib Buwembo.

Speaking to Journalists earlier today, Nyanzi said that “dictator Museveni should first construct roads in Uganda before doing the same in DRC.”

“We are decrying the move to construct tarmac roads in Congo, yet our country lacks roads. Why approve 250 billion shillings for construction of roads in neighbouring Congo yet Ugandans are suffering with lack of roads,” said Nyanzi

It should be remembered that cabinet on September 28, 2020 approved a plan to construct roads linking Uganda and eastern DRC.

The Minister of Works and Transport Gen Katumba Wamala on October 6, 2020 defended the move, saying, it would boost trade between the two neighbouring countries. The construction of said roads is expected to cost over 200 billion.
