State House Entebbe will play host to only 30 very very important persons (VVIPs) at the 58th Independence Day anniversary celebrations this Friday.
This was revealed by the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo, who made the announcement at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
Addressing the press, Mbayo explained that the ravaging effect of the COVID-19, implies that this year’s independence fete will be devoid of the pomp and pageantry that has characterized the past commemorations.
“A maximum of 30 VVIPS will attend the function at State House Entebbe. There will be no traditional programmes or fanfare as the country manages COVID-19,” said Mbayo.
The minister noted that President Yoweri Museveni will be Chief Guest and will preside over the ceremony.
She stressed that proceedings will be relayed live on television and radio stations, in addition to other social media platforms
This year’s theme is; ‘Celebrating Uganda’s steady progress towards economic take off and self-sustaining economic growth’.
