UPDF has airlifted Masindi High Court judge, Paul Gadenya to Kampala for treatment after being involved in a life threatening accident along the Kampala – Masindi road early this morning.

Justice Gadenya was in the morning travelling to Masindi when his car, Mitshubishi Pajero UG 0781 J collided with another vehicle registration number UBH831 at Bigando, 10 kilometres away from Masindi town.

“He was this afternoon airlifted to Kampala in a military chopper for specialized medical attention,” the judiciary said in a statement.

According to the judiciary, the accident was caused by the driver of the truck who reportedly joined the main road recklessly.

The judge, his driver and guard sustained serious injuries after the accident.

“Joint emergency services coordinated by the Judiciary, Uganda Police and the UPDF evacuated the judge and his team from the accident scene,” said the Judiciary’s Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana.

Judiciary’s Chief Registrar, Ms Sarah Langa Siu, said the judge and his team were first briefly admitted at Kitara Medical Centre in Masindi for first aid before being airlifted to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala for better medical attention.

“The Judiciary would like to appreciate everyone who assisted to ensure that the victims of the early morning accident get timely medical attention,” Langa said.

By press time, and according to a statement from the hospital, the judge was stable by the time of airlifting. However he is still in a critical condition.
