National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has been accused of not genuinely winning the Nakawa West NUP Primaries by former Democratic Party (DP) Spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande who has disagreed with the betting process that awarded Joel Ssenyonyi the flag for Nakawa West MP, ahead of him.
However, Kakande disagrees with the process saying he is surprised with the outcome.
He said he was also asked about the values of NUP which he clearly explained as well as a question on how long he has been with Robert Kyagulanyi in the struggle.
“I started when he (Kuyagulanyi) started. I Joined him in Kyadondo East, we went with him up to Arua, no one beats me in that area. I have petitioned and want to look at my marks. I want to see how they awarded these marks,” he said.
According to Kakande, facts remain facts and can not be changed. He claimed that if the party can not handle the petition, he will proceed on an independent ticket and let the people of Nakawa decide.
“I expected after vetting, we go for primaries to give the people of Nakawa to choose who to represent them, we have been selling cards. I will run as an independent, the people will decide,” he said.
Kakande is not the only complainant, singer Joseph Mayanja alias Chameleone chose to proceed as an independent candidate after he was denied a ticket for Kampala Lord Mayor twice and many keep joining the cue as they run away from the NUP ticket that is being regarded as toxic.
