Businesses operating at the Centenary Park in Kampala will today be evicted and land handed over to government to pave way for construction of the Jinja Expressway.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka in a letter to Nalongo Estates that manages the property, said President Museveni ordered the land to be handed over for the construction works to commence.
“His Excellency the President directed that the land surveyed and demarcated at Centenary Park for the Jinja Expressway should be immediately handed over to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to enable the commencement of work,” Ms Kisaka’s letter reads in part.
Ms Kisaka also informed the commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police to deploy officers at the site to ensure a peaceful handover.
The land has been under the management of Sarah Kizito, the owner of Nalongo Estates.
