Jeremiah Asiimwe, the defence secretary for Rubiri village, Kagadi district has been arrested for allegedly selling government face masks.

The Health ministry delivered 341,197 face masks to Kagadi district last week to boost control measures against coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This was the first batch of face masks to be delivered to the district by the ministry ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in March.

The area resident district commissioner, Lillian Ruteraho flagged off the distribution on Monday, after which, they were handed over to LC1 chairpersons for distribution to the residents.

However, Asiimwe was on Tuesday found selling the same masks at Shs 500 each. He had sold over 100 masks at the time of his arrest. RDC Lilian Ruteraho says her office was alerted by some residents who saw Asiimwe selling the face masks.

Ruteraho has asked residents to report all those who will be selling the government masks to her office for immediate action to be taken against the culprits.
