TEARGAS AND LIVE BULLETS: Youthful Kinkizi East Voters Demand for Baryomunsi’s Head over Election Rigging

With the wind of protesting blowing from Ntungamo, today supporters of Kinkizi East NRM runners up in the recent concluded elections, Deus Nkwasibwe also known as Omusisa, have spent the better part of today in running battles with Police after they staged a demonstration over what they called massive rigging.

The youthful supporters staged the demonstration along Kambuga – Kanungu road at Omukatoojo Trading Center at an intersection road leading to Kanungu District Headquarters and Kihihi Town where transport was paralyzed close to 4 hours.

The distressed demonstrators carried placards reading massage against Kinkizi East Member of Parliament Hon Chris Baryomunsi whom they accused of fomenting voter bribery and rigging. The demonstrators burnt logs of wood and car tyres in the middle of road which blocking transport to and from Kanungu.

Kanungu District NRM Returning officer Alex Turyahikayo announced incumbent Kinkizi East MP Hon Chris Baryomunsi as a winner in the just concluded primary elections where he was contesting with Deus Nkwasibwe (Omusisa), Oscar Kasya and Francis Nuwagaba.

The Police, however immediately swung into action and dispersed the demonstrators and arrested about 5 of them bundled them into the Police truck and whisked them off to Kanungu District Police Station.

The Police resorted to use tear gas after a large number of crowds started forming in the Trading Center.

The Police was later reinforced by Field Force Unit (FFU) from Kanungu District who immediately embarked on running battles with the demonstrators.

A resident who asked to be named fearing reprisal, said that they will not allow illegitimate results and their demonstrations will be extended to other Sub Counties in Kinkizi East Constituency.
