Over 10 New Vision workers who tested positive for Coronavirus are facing imminent death after failing to access medical treatment for 10 days.
On August 17, New Vision CEO Robert Kabushenga announced that one of the staff had been found with the virus.
Three days after, Mr Kabushenga reported 15 more cases at Industrial Area based establishment and assured the public that New Vision was working closely with Ministry of Health to offer the patients necessary medical treatment.
However, this website has Tuesday landed on credible information that these patients are in their homes surviving on God’s mercy since they have not been attended to by the medical experts.
Contacted on what could have caused a delay in evacuating these patients to hospital, Mr Kabushenga referred this website to Ministry of Health since it is in charge of all people who test positive for COVID-19.
“Please refer your question to Ministry of Health. They are responsible for any person that tests positive,” Mr Kabushenga replied in a Whatsapp message.
But we have learnt that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Director General of Health Services Dr Henry Mwebesa who acknowledged that Ministry of Health has lately been overstretched.
“He apologized and promised to follow up the matter with urgency,” a top government official who was in contact with Dr Mwebesa said.
According to this official, Ministry of Health has sought the help of Uganda Police to beef up its teams with manpower and vehicles particularly in evacuating infected people from their homes.
Lately corporate companies including New Vision, UEGCL, UNRA, Toyota Uganda, DFCU and many others have registered cases among their workers.
The virus continues to threaten Uganda particularly Kampala District which experts have warned could turn into an epicenter.
The country has so far recorded over 32 deaths and 3000 cases.
The spiraling numbers of infections and deaths are blamed on the reluctance by the public to adhere to health guidelines including washing hands, putting on a mask, social distancing and seeking medical attention in case symptoms erupt.
