The Ministry of Health has confirmed one new COVID-19 death.
The deceased is a 65-year-old male from Kampala Metropolitan Area who died from China-Uganda Friendship Hospitals Naguru after developing symptoms consistent with coronavirus.
32 new COVID-19 cases have also been confirmed. These include 17 alerts, 6 are trucker drivers, 6 are contacts while 3 returnees from Kenya and DRC.
Of the 17 alerts, 10 are from Kampala, Luweero (2), Mabel (3) while two are from Kagadi and Hoima.
Regarding the six contacts to previously confirmed cases; Kampala registered 3, Nakaseke (2) and Tororo 1.
For trucker drivers, three arrived from Kenya via Malaba and Busia while three arrived from South Sudan via Orabo and Aligo points of entry.
Kampala is now the top district that accounts for the biggest percent of all confirmed cases in Uganda, the Ministry of Health has Thursday August — naming the capital as the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot.
Kampala this week saw a major surge in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, making it the new virus hotspot.
Dr. Aceng said Amuru and Kyotera districts have been recording the highest rates of transmission in comparison to other districts, but have now been joined by Kampala City.
To date, cumulative number of confirmed cases of COVID19 in Uganda is 1,385 with a breakdown indicating that returnees from abroad have reached 186, contacts and alerts stand at 581 truck drivers at 580while health workers stand at 39 cases.
