“We shall not be spectators while our country is being killed, plundered and destroyed,” Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has said.
“We owe it to the present people of Uganda and the generations to come,” the National Unity Platform [NUP] flag bearer was responding to President Museveni who Friday praised his Special Forces Command [SFC] guards for “properly beating Bobi Wine”.
“The other day, there was a fracas in West Nile where our young friend Bobi Wine was fighting security people,” Museveni said Friday while passing out police recruits at Kabalye Training School in Masindi district.
“When they [SFC] went where this young man was in the room, he had caused problems a day before…so these people [Bobi Wine] tried to box them [SFC]. They [soldiers] also boxed them back until they subdued them,” Museveni said.
He added: “I find these people acted properly in self-defence. They didn’t beat them after that. I think it was in order. It was the other people [Bobi Wine] who was in the wrong.”
In August 2018, Museveni also praised his guards for ‘not being cowards’ and engaging opposition MPs and their supporters in Arua.
Bobi Wine (Kyadondo East), Francis Zaake (Mityana municipality) and Arua MP elect Ezati Kassiano Wadri and their supporters were violently arrested by SFC on allegations that they’d pelted stones at the president’s convoy in Arua.
Following the alleged stoning incident, chaos erupted leading to the shooting dead of Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma and the brutal arrest of at least three legislators and over 33 civilians.
Bobi Wine responds
“Yoweri Museveni, Uganda’s military dictator justifying my torture to near death by his guards in Arua in 2018,” Bobi Wine lashed out.
“Shamelessly, he admits that he stood in the way of justice and ensured that perpetrators were never punished! Not even those who shot Yasin Kawuma.”
According to Bobi Wine, Museveni says this to embolden new soldiers and recruits to brutalise Ugandans as we near the election.
“He is commissioning them to go and commit atrocities against the people, well knowing that he’s got their back! Pathetic that he says I tried to box his guards who were armed with all sorts of weapons!”
He added: “I can assure Mr. Kaguta Museveni that you will never have the last laugh. All brutal despots throughout history have found great pleasure in the pain of their victims, but they never have the last laugh!”
