The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has extended the deadline for picking of nomination forms of various aspirants to next week on Monday August 3, 2020.

Initially, the party had set July 31, as the deadline for all aspirants to pick nomination forms but it was forced to extend the exercise citing the Eid al adha celebrations on the preliminary deadline.

The party’s electoral Commission Chairman, DR Tanga Odoi said, Thursday in a press release.

The informed are aspiring candidates for positions of; constituency Member of Parliament, district woman MP, special interest group (SIG) MP and LC V Chairpersons.

“Expression of interest and picking of nominations forms has been extended to Monday August 3, 2020, excluding July 31, a public holiday, August 1 and 2 which are weekends,” Odoi said.

Aspirants were however advised to pick forms from online on the party’s electoral commission website at www.nrmec.org or call the party commission’s Systems Administrators on the numbers provided on the website.

“Aspirants interested in contesting in the newly created but not yet-to-be-gazetted constituencies can also pick the nomination forms,” he advised.

However, aspirants in the mother constituency who wished to cross and contest in the new ones were allowed to do so at no extra change.

Odoi also revealed that they are awaiting clearance by Parliament and the National Electoral Commission to call for expression of interest for the SIG MPs representing older persons.

“The commission will open a window to allow interested aspirants express interest for the positions,” Odoi said.

Local Government Councils

According to Odoi, picking of forms for local government councils will start on August 7 to 11, 2020 at district level.

“We therefore call upon all NRM aspiring candidates interested in the various elective positions to follow the NRM electoral roadmap for details and guidance,” Odoi said.
