COVID-19 Kills Another 214 People in Africa

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) killed a further 214 people across Africa on Thursday, increasing the total deaths in Africa to 9,104.
The continent also recorded a further 12,093 new infections, raising the total number of infections to 350,859. Meanwhile, Uganda’s total cases increased to 833 after a further 12 new infections were recorded from the 2,113 samples tested on Thursday.Ten of the cases are contacts of people who tested positive for the disease while two of the cases were from truck drivers at the Malaba point of entry. The community cases were from Kyotera, Amuru, Tororo, Buikwe and Luweero districts. Another 30 people recovered from the virus, increasing the number of recovered patients to 761.

According to the World Health Organisation, over 35 per cent of the cases being reported on the continent are from South Africa which has over 111,000 cases while countries within the East African Community bloc contribute less than 4 per cent of all the cases.

🔹 Djibouti recorded 5 new infections (total 4,635)
🔹 Central African Republic recorded 2 new deaths (total 40) and 145 new infections (total 3,244)
🔹 Somalia recorded 43 new infections (total 2,878)
🔹 Madagascar recorded 42 new infections (total 1,829)
🔹 Cape Verde recorded 4 new infections (total 1,003)
🔹 Rwanda recorded 20 new cases (total 850)
🔹 Sao Tome and Principe recorded one new case (total 711)
🔹 Comoros recorded 7 new cases (total 272)
🔹 Réunion recorded one new death (total 2) and 8 new infections (total 516)
🔹 Mayotte recorded 41 new cases (total 2508)
