NARO Scientist Kiwuso to Receive Award for Role in Preserving Uganda’s Forests

Mr Peter Kiwuso, a senior Research Scientist working with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) at the National Forestry Resources Research Institute, (NaFORRI) is to receive a medal on Uganda’s 57th Independence day from H.E.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The medal according to our sources is in recognition of his work as a scientist. Mr. Kiwuso is described by those who know him as down to earth and a very hardworking man.

He is a former Makerere University and Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London scholar.

He has lectured at Makerere University and Nyabyeya Forestry college where he has contributed to the pool of prominent Foresters in the country.

He is among the pioneer staff of NARO and is credited for spearheading biological control of forest insect epidemics that were devastating Uganda’s forest plantations among other research and innovations saving Uganda trillions of shillings in addition to contributing to the mitigation of climate change and boosting livelihoods of poor rural Ugandans.

Peter is an Old Boy of Budadiri Boys’ Primary School and Nabumali High School.

Meanwhile, the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to attend Uganda’s 57th Independence Day celebrations in Sironko District in eastern Uganda come October 9th.

Ms Mbayo said that President Museveni had invited Mr. Mnangagwa as a special guest at the celebrations that will be held in Eastern Uganda.

The theme for this year is ‘Consolidation of National Unity, Security, Freedom, and Prosperity.
