Fresh Details on Kyambogo University Shooting Emerge

The police have issued a statement about the incident in which a private security guard earlier this morning shot dead a man at Kyambogo University.

Although earlier reports indicated that the victim was a student at the University, police say the man had only come to check on his girlfriend and he is an employee of National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

The deceased has been identified as Doribert Atwesigye.

According to police, one Kiiza Alkanglo Alali a security guard attached to millennium company, shot Atwesigye Doribert when he forced himself in Kabojja Hostel.

According to police, Atwesigye died at Iran Uganda Hospital following the shooting.

Police Action

Banda police have opened a case of attempted murder under file number SD ref 06/29/9/2019 and arrested the suspect.

The victim was also picked and taken to the hospital in critical condition but died shortly on arrival.

The police have also recovered the guard’s rifle no. SR Ug PSO 12085000-03817 with one live bullet.

Earlier, an eye witness described to this website the incident: “Generally, we lack respect for authority and think we can always have our way all the time. On top of that, we seem to undermine others. The young man was going to check on the girlfriend but before 7. Askari tells him they don’t open gates before 7 am, he resorted to insults. The Askari permanently shut him up,” said the source.

Meanwhile, cases of private guards shooting people dead have been rampant in the recent past with the most recent being an incident at Quality supermarket in Naalya.

In that incident, Anold Ainebyona Mugisha,  was shot in the mouth by Moses Angoria, a security guard attached to Saracen security company while guarding at quality Supermarket.
