Police Hands Over Rakai School Fire Victims To Parents

A team of senior pathologists headed by the Director Police Health Services, AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga has handed over the bodies of nine (9) children that were killed in the fire at the above school on Sunday November 11, 2018.

The function was witnessed by Hon. Rosemary Ssenninde, Minister of State for Primary Education at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

All the bodies were successfully identified, postmortems done and DNA tests and analysis done. They are now in transit to the school except one body which has been taken to Semuto, Nakaseke district in accordance with the wishes of the family. The other eight (8) remains will be handed over to the respective families accordingly at the school, possibly this evening.

Worth to note is the tireless efforts of the pathologists, the experts from the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory (D/GAL) and our investigators that coordinated this entire process. We greatly thank them all.

It is equally important to note the efforts of the entire team of experts at the Directorate of GAL headed by Director; Mr. Kateu Kepha.

The Uganda Police Force will continue with the investigation of this heinous crime that claimed 10 lives left, 36 hospitalized and many more traumatized, Emilian Kayima the police spokesman said in a statement.

He added that Police will ensure that justice prevails. We stand with the families in these trying moments.
