EC Puts Conditions for Mugisha Muntu New Party Registration

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu  has started registration of  a new party.

This comes after he left and started a consultative forum dubbed New Formation that he promised to change into a political party over time.

The process of this registration is being done with the Electoral Commission and the details regarding this party have not yet been unveiled.

According to Alice Alaso, the Chief Convener of the New Formation meetings, the intending party has been asked to collect 50 signatures of registered voters from at least two thirds of all districts in Uganda.

She however declined to disclose the name of the party and submitted it will be revealed after verification from the EC. She added the task of collecting the signatures had been accomplished and the anticipated returning them to the EC for the verification process to commence.

It should be remembered that Muntu alongside some party members left FDC a party to which he was a founding members in 2004.

The possibility of formation of a new political party is bound to increase pressure on the opposition as well add to the number of the already existing 29 in Uganda.
