Bagyenda’s Bodyguard and Driver Arrested for Investigation

The parliamentary committee investigating the closure of commercial banks ordered the arrest of the body guard and driver of Ms Justine Bagyenda.

This is in line with the vital documents that the former executive Director for supervision at the central bank is suspected to have secretly taken from the bank.

The two, Ms Juliet Adikot (bodyguard) and Mr Job Turyahabwe (driver) were charged for submitting false information to the committee. The MPs ordered the arrest after the duo gave contradicting testimonies to the committee in relation to Ms Bagyenda’s route of the journey on the day three bags were returned to the central bank in February.

They told a sub-committee chaired by the Army MP, Brig Francis Takirwa that they drove Ms Bagyenda from Entebbe airport directly to BoU but evidence presented by the central bank security director, Mr Milton Opiyo indicated another trip that they had not captured.

“There is property of the bank at stake. The officers who carried this property have lied on oath. We would like to know what exactly the contents of those bags were and how you travelled. Where did you leave those bags?” Mr Abdul Katuntu, the Committee Chairperson queried.

He then asked the parliamentary CID Police to probe into the matter and submit occasional reports until a final report is brought forward.

Meanwhile, Ms Bagyenda who left the country extended her return day to Sunday.
