Ugandan artist based in Denmark Joanita Lubega Zachariassen was declared winner of the “DR Live singing” competitions 2018″ on Saturday 20th October scooping the grand prize money of 250,000DKr equivalent to 130million Uganda shillings. Mixing both English and Luganda the Joanita’s stage presence and strong vocals were a big factor in win.

About Joanita Lubega.
“A small woman with a big voice” — Joanita born originally from Uganda in Africa, has a Christian background, and is a Singer-songwriter and gospel/pop/soul/afrobeat. Joanita holds an diploma from “Complete Vocal Institute” music school in Denmark and has worked in the music industry for over 18 years.

Back home in Uganda she has worked with Producers like Steve Jean and collaborated with artists like Naviom, Mr. Mosh and the Mith.

After embarking on a solo career in 2006 she released her first solo album (soul / pop / reggae) named “Kept me going.” In 2009 starred Joanita in “Talent Show 09” and the same year featured in a “Climate service ” in Copenhagen’s cathedral, where she sang for over 2000 people – including several heads of state, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik.

In 2013 Joanita won the Integration Award for her work as an African artist for her music as a voice of change in Denmark. Joanita has appeared along the late gospel star Etta Cameron and warmed up for Don Moen and Alvin Slaughter, both renown US Gospel artists. She appeared in “X-Factor 2008 ‘as a backup singer for the group” Alien beat club “.

In 2016 Joanita performed for Nelson Mandela’s daughter (Zindzi Mandela) at a refugee charity concert. Joanita has also worked and sang with Emmelie de Forest Eurovision Song Contest winner of 2013.  (additional reporting by Ugandan Diaspora)
