Two Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party leaders have been arrested for allegedly campaigning on polling day in Sheema North constituency.
Those arrested are Stanley Katembeya, the FDC Party chairperson for Mbarara district and Oddo Tayebwa the former Member of Parliament for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. They were picked up at Bwayegamba in Kigarama Sub County by police and driven off immediately to Kabwohe Police Station.
According to the Sheema Resident District Commissioner Willy Turyamuboona, the two were found luring voters to vote for the Forum for Democratic change party candidate Guma Nuwagaba.
Marshal Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson told our reporter on phone that he could only confirm the arrest but declined to divulge details about the charges saying that he was busy in the field monitoring the progress of the elections.
The race for Sheema North Member of Parliament has attracted two candidates who include; Naome Kibaaju of the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM party and Guma Nuwagaba. The seat fell vacant when the area MP Elioda Tumwesigye abandoned the constituency to contest for a parliamentary seat in the newly created Sheema Municipality.
The process has so far been reported to be calm, albeit amid tight security.
