Kanungu District Health Officer Dr Steven Ssebudde has said that the tests carried out on the patient who died at Bwindi Community Hospital suspected of being an Ebola victim have turned out negative.

Speaking to this reporter on phone, Dr Ssebudde said that the blood tests which were carried out at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe for both Ebola and murbug, turned out to be negative.

He said that there is no need to worry about Ebola although the dead man who hailed from Rugando parish in Kayonza sub-county had signs similar to those of Ebola victims.

The patient was admitted at Bwindi Community Hospital on Oct 26th where he died a few hours after admission and was subsequently buried by health officials following established guidelines by the Ministry of Health.

Earlier today, the senior PRO Ministry of Health Mr From Emmanuel Ainebyoona said that the 26-year old male who died in Kanungu after presenting with symptoms like bleeding had not died from Ebola.

“His blood sample is currently being tested at the Uganda Virus Research Institute and results are expected later today. Please not that there is no confirmed Ebola Virus Disease in Uganda,” he said.
