Museveni Tells Cranes Players To Improve Shooting Power

President Yoweri Museveni has urged Uganda Cranes footballers to improve ontheir shooting power if they are to maintain their top spot qualify for the 2019 championship in Cameroon.

The president was speaking during a meeting with the Uganda Cranes last evening at State House Entebbe.

He also congratulated them for their recent achievements, including their participation in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

“I watched some of their games in Gabon but noticed their shots were lacking in power. I hope the managers can do something about their diet and training to ensure the players are stronger, like the late David Otii was,” said Museveni in a statement posted on his social media pages on Wednesday.

He also promised that government would support the team with transportation for their game next week.

“The government will charter a plane to transport the team to Lesotho for their Group L Africa Cup of Nations encounter next Tuesday. I hope the team maintains their top spot and qualifies for the 2019 championship in Cameroon.

Each player will also receive a token of appreciation from the government,” said Museveni.

Background

The Cranes have yet to win a competitive game under Sébastien Desabre, after the Frenchman’s side was held by Tanzania in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Mandela National Stadium last month.

Desabre, who has been in charge of the Uganda Cranes since December 2017, cast a frustrated figure in the dying minutes of an end-to-end tie against the Tanzanian side, as chance after chance went squandered.

His side, failing to brush aside a resilient Taifa Stars at home, however remained top of Group L after two games on four points.
