DRC Presidential Candidates Urged To Promote Peace Ahead of Crucial Election

President Museveni poses for a photo with the DRC delegationPresidential candidates in the Democratic Republic of Congo election have been urged to promote peace to ensure their country doesn’t descend into war as the neigbouring country nears a crucial poll.

President Yoweri Museveni, a key political player in the regional urged the candidates not to spread hatred but rather peace and harmony that will result in the development of the country.

This was during a meeting at State House Entebbe where Museveni met the DRC’s Felix Tshisekedi, the president of Congo’s largest opposition party
Milton Kambula, the president Global Peace Foundation Uganda Chapter and Peace Service ambassador masterminded the meeting as part of efforts to ensure peace in the DRC.

Kambula also plans to work with religious leaders, political actors and other opinion leaders in the DRC to advocate for peace.
These are part of the commitments made by the Globa Peace Foundation held in Munyonyo recently.

The team sharing a light moment

General elections are scheduled to be held in the mineral rich Democratic Republic of the Congo on 23 December 2018, to determine a successor to incumbent President Joseph Kabila.

They were originally scheduled for 27 November 2016, but were delayed with a broken promise to hold them by the end of 2017.

Earlier this year, Kabila named his successor adding that he would not participate in the election as a candidate.
