Why Family Of Bobi Wine’s Slain Driver Shunned Cash From Museveni

The family of Yasin Kawuma, the slain driver of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has rejected Shs20 million that was reportedly donated to them by President Yoweri Museveni through singer Catherine Kusasira.

The money was taken to the family in Lusanja, Wakiso District yesterday.

This website has learnt that the family told Kusasira to return on Thursday after they have made consultations and made a decision.

It is believed the family which made a plea to well wishers for help wanted to consult with Bobi Wine who had earlier visited them.

After rejecting the cash, Catherine Kusasira who had just returned from a meeting with President Museveni said that the family members should have taken the money since it was done in good faith.

“I was touched by the family situation according to what I saw on TV and as a parent who has seen the president help before, in my status it’s the little I could do. You all have a right to hold a different perception about this, many may turn it political but mine is from a parental perspective no matter the differences and minded more about the children and school status because as a parent too, the president was willing to help beyond even Shs20 million,” she said in the post on her Facebook page.

She also explained that her team now intends to deliver money to the father of the former Buyende District Police Commander Mohammad Kirumira, who was killed early this month.

Kawuma died after being hit by a bullet on the eve of the violent Arua Municipality by-election last month.
