Two US Congressmen Tell Ugandan Government to Drop Charges Against Bobi Wine

Two members of the US congress have written a letter to Amb. Mull Ssebuija Katende of Uganda calling on the Ugandan government to drop charges against Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi and his colleagues.

In a letter dated September 21, the two congress members; Brad Sherman and Karen Bass demand the Ugandan government to also drop the charges against Bobi Wine’s co-accused and other Ugandans that may have been detailed for protesting Bobi Wine’s arrest and detention last month.

Brad Sherman is one of the people that held a meeting with Bobi Wine who has just returned from Washington where he was receiving treatment.

Mr Sherman has been serving as a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997 while Ms Karen Ruth represents California’s 37th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives having been first elected in 2010.

Bobi Wine who returned to Uganda on Thursday is faced with treason charges alongside Mr Kassiano Wadri, Mr Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality), Mr Paul Mwiru (Jinja East), Mr Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality) and Mr Mike Mabikke (former Makindye East MP) among others.
