Internal Affairs Minister Gen Jeje Odongo and police spokesman Emilian Kayima have been pelted with stones before they were whisked away by army and police officers at Muhammad Kirumira’s funeral.
Mourners chanting people power, our people chased the government officials, accusing them of failing to protect Ugandans.
Meanwhile Dr Kizza Besigye arrived to an ecstatic reception and also chants of people power, one Uganda, one people.
One could be safe to say the funeral was turned into a political rally.
Dr Besigye said that Kirumira was among Ugandans working for a better Uganda.
In the meantime, security agencies are investigating reports that Kirumira had alerted police prior to his death that his life was in danger. Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima told journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru that authorities are following up with action taken for any of the cases Kirumira reported while fearing for his life.
President Museveni has said that his government will re-activate the methods used during the Luweero bush war to defeat urban criminals killing high profile Ugandans.
