Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi has responded to Gen Mugisha Muntu’s decision to leave the opposition establishment, saying it he the former army commander does not have genuine reasons for leaving the party.
“As President of the FDC, it’s my strong conviction that Gen Muntu and his team would have absolutely no genuine reason, whatsoever, to be leaving the FDC. The last elections were free and fair and the winner won genuinely. The winner was a choice of the party delegates’ conference,” he said.
The two principals on Tuesday met at Fairway Hotel in Kampala to discuss the findings of the report Muntu gathered in his nationwide consultations which he presented.
However, the meeting ended prematurely when a section of the party youth raided the facility and distracted the proceedings.
It later emerged that Muntu who expressed discomfort last year after losing an election announced his plans of quitting the FDC.
It is understood that Gen Muntu will form another party together with a number of opposition MPs, independents and some NRM members who believe in his strategy.
Amuriat also released a brief statement to that effect.

Gen. Mugisha Muntu and his team of Hon. Alice Alaso, Hon. Kassiano Wadri MP, Hon. Stephen Ochola and Owek. Sewava Sserubiri presented to us findings of their eight months nationwide consultations announced immediately after my victory as FDC President on 24th November 2017.

I wish to state that from our candid and honest discussion of their findings, he stated that they were not opposed to my leadership of FDC; that the election that brought me into office was free and fair; and that FDC fidelity to the values, principles, objectives/mission and strategies for which it was founded are not contested.
We agreed that FDC has remained true to our promises, pledges and compact with the people of Uganda to offer an alternative leadership that espouses the dignity of the human person, meritbased leadership, social justice and equal opportunity to every Ugandan.
