Dr Kizza Besigye who has tried in four elections but failed to unseat his bush war comrade has said that if it requires him to pave way for Bobi Wine to lead the struggle against Museveni, he is willing to do it.
Dr Besigye who has been seen as the only candidate that can challenge Museveni addressed a press conference at his office on Katonga road and emphasized he cannot not allow his face to block change in Uganda.
Reacting to Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago that he is the face of the struggle, Dr Besigye dismissed the description vowing to support any force of change. His remarks come amid the rise of pop star Bobi Wine as a contender for the presidency.
“If Besigye’s face is the problem, let’s put another face and we move. It is urgent that we recover this country. I will not allow my face to be a problem – not at all. Not to be an obstacle to the liberation of this country, I won’t. Nothing should hold the liberation of this country for any other day, nothing.” said Besigye.
Bobi Wine has recently said that he believes Museveni can be defeated in an election, something Besigye has lost hope in.
He also said that the opposition should not be bickering and attempting to make cheap scores, saying it is time to come together as pone force.
“We must immediately close ranks; this is not the time for bickering, for making petty scores against each other. This is a time to rally and recover the country,” Besigye said.
In an attempt to form an opposition coalition to face Museveni in the 2016 elections, various camps came together and formed The Democratic Alliance (TDA) although they failed to agree on one candidate. Some rallied behind Dr Besigye while Amama Mbabazi walked away with some other leaders.
