New Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri Sworn In

Newly elected Arua Municiaplity Member of Parliament Kassiano Ezati Wadri has been sworn in, days after being released on bail.

Mr Kassiano an independent candidate replaces Col Ibrahim Abiriga who was shot dead by yet to be identified assailants two months ago.

Mr Kassiano was two weeks ago arrested on the eve of the election in which he defeated NRM’s Nusura Tiperu.

Mr Wadri polled 6,528 votes, beating NRM’s Nusura Tiperu who came second (4,763 votes) followed by Independent candidate Robert Ejiku in the August 15 ballot. Forum for Democratic Change party’s Bruce Musema came fourth with 1,372 votes.

Mr Wadri was voted MP in absentia after security forces arrested him alongside Bobi Wine who was on his campaign trail.

Mr Kassiano was welcomed by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

Meanwhile Wadri is charged with treason and is not allowed to step in his Arua constituency as one of the bail conditions by the High court in Gulu.
