World Leaders Gear Up For Global Peace Leadership Conference in Kampala

Uganda will host the Global Peace Leadership conference in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation from the 1st – 2nd August 2018 at Munyonyo Resort Hotel.

The high level conference will be attended by distinguished world leader will see Uganda’s  President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni honoured with the Global Peace Award 2018 for leading peace efforts in the region.

The conference will model the region to the world in peace building and reconciliation.

Key dignitaries will tour selected sites in the region to showcase the reconciliation and livelihood rebuilding efforts. Leaders of neighboring countries like South Sudan, Somali and DRC, who will share experience in peace building and reconciliation during the conference.

Incumbent and former Heads of State/ Government from the region that have confirmed attendance include;  Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya, John Pombe Magufuli, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Dr. Abeid Amani Karume, former President of Zanzibar, and H.E Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

More VVIP confirmations from the region, the African continent and Asia are expected during the course of next week,  the Minister of Public Service Muruli Mukasa told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Thursday.

“The conference will be interactive with break-out concurrent sessions for women, youth, interfaith and intercultural peace building, education transformation, business, the parliamentary discourse and the signing of peace declaration by the Heads of State/ Government,” said the minister.

 “You will appreciate that peace, stability and security are key ingredients and essential factors for development to take place. However, ours is a volatile region in which stability has not taken root,” Mr Mukasa said adding that: “This has worsened the poverty levels, which also fuels crime, conflict, and instability. The influx of refugees into Uganda points to a restless region. Hosting GPLC 2018 in our country is aimed at tackling the nexus between poverty and instability and how economic empowerment can stop conflict.”

The theme for this conference is; “Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development”
