Justice Cheborion Barishaki, the first judge in the consolidated petitions challenging the enactment of Constitutional Amendment Bill, (No.2), 2017, dubbed Age limit Bill has rubbished MPs’ decision to extend their tenure from five to seven (7) years.

Justice Barishaki in his judgment said that legislators acted out of greed and selfishness and were serving their interests other than those of their constituents by extending their term in office.

Barishaki said that it was selfish and goes against the principle of good governance.
“If it had been done in the will of good governance then it would have taken effect in the next Parliament. Therefore, these provisions were passed in disregard of various provisions of the constitution and Parliament rules of procedure.”
The panel of five judges led by Deputy Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo are still reading their rulings before the final judgment in the age limit bill is announced.
