Bugiri Election Gets Ugly as Basalirwa’s Supporters Hack 1-Year-Old Baby in Attack

The Bugiri Municipality election is getting ugly after Ahmad Suubi, a baby aged one year and nine months was among the victims stabbed as a group of merciless youth reportedly belonging to Asuman Basalirwa camp invaded the NRM procession after a rally addressed by Gen. Kahinda Otafire.

Faisal Mugoya 21, was also stabbed in the stomach by the same group. A photograph obtained by this website shows the baby with a stitched wound on the head.

Bugiri is among the newly created municipalities that are set to vote for their MPs and Mayors. The other Municipalities are; Buikwe, Njeru, Nebbi, Kotido, Shema and Apac.

Heated election

Of the six municipalities, it is Bugiri that has had heated campaigns as the NRM candidate John Francis Oketcho tussles it out with four others for the new Municipality Parliamentary seat. Others include; Eunice Namatende (FDC), and Asuman Basalirwa (JEEMA).

Last Thursday a Police stray bullet killed a bodaboda cyclist Moses Ramathan Walyendo. This was during a fracas between the police and supporters of  Asuman Basalirwa.
