Veteran DP leader Ssebaana Kizito rushed to hospital in critical condition

Veteran politician and former Democratic Party (DP) President, John Sebaana Kizito has been rushed to hospital in critical condition after suffering a stroke.

Ssebana Kizito who is also a former Mayor of Kampala is admitted to Nakasero Hospital’s intensive care unit following a stroke on Monday.

It is said that the veteran leader who has been looking frail is battling diabetes and high blood pressure.

Brief profile

Ssebaana was born 1934 and he owns a good number of buildings in Kampala and neighboring areas.

He is an old boy of Ndejje Junior, Ndejje Senior School and Kings College Budo.
Ssebaana also obtained a degree in Economics from Makerere University before joining the University of Oregon in the US for a Masters degree in Economics.

The elderly man with a hoarse voice earned a second degree in the US and joined the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC). He has previously worked at the Crusader Insurance and the following year worked at the National Insurance Corporation (NIC).

In the early 1980s, Ssebaana served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kampala South Constituency.

Ssebaana is well known for his business sense having teamed up with a few colleagues to start the first private insurance company, Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO).

In his life, Ssebaana has amassed wealth and he is believed to own several property including Sure House on Bombo Road and several other properties including apartments in Muyenga, Kibuli, Bugolobi, Namuwongo, Kansanga, Mengo and Namugongo
