The Director Uganda Road Fund has been sworn in as the Paramount Chief of Lango.
Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Odongo Okune, 54 took oath of office as Paramount Chief for Lango at Senior Quarters, Lira Municipal Council in Lira district on Friday.
His swearing in was presided over by Louis Tumwesigye of Louis Tumwesigye Advocate & Commissioner for Oaths in presence of Okello Oyem and Co. Advocates, the legal advocate which represents Lango Cultural Institution.
Odongo, clan head of Okaromwono clan is expected to take over office from Yosam Odur Ebii, 83-year old as Paramount Chief (Wonyaci) on the 19th June 2017.
If the current Paramount Chief Odur refuses to leave office, Okune may remain a parallel Lango Chief. He was elected on the 20th Feb 2017 by a section of Lango clan leaders opposed to Odur’s leadership.
Odongo was a very good friend to Odur and because of that, he was appointed the coordinator of the Langi in the Diaspora
The Lango Cultural Institution’s spokesman, Willy Omodo Omodo said the new Chief will be in office on the 20th June 2017.
He observed that the election of New Wonyaci will bring to an end the disputes among cultural leaders of Lango.
Odur who risks losing his seat to Okune was elected by few Lango Clan leaders in Apac district during a meeting organized by the Action Aid.
Around 2015 Lango clan heads sat for a peace building meeting and resolved that new Chief should be elected to replace Odur who is of advanced age.

Odongo pledged to work within the constitution of Lango Cultural Institution (Tekwaro Lango) all the time.
“We are now heading into a peaceful transition of Lango cultural leadership, therefore I appeal to all of you to remain calm. We are ready for any legal battle that may arise from anybody who does not want the peaceful transition,” he added.
Dr. Richard Nam, Odur’s ally insists that Odongo will not take over power from Yosam Ebii because he (Odongo) is still very young.
