The officers through one of the officer’s lawyer

Barnabas Dyadi-Kamya begged to be remanded to Kigo prison as opposed to Luzira where the Kamwenge mayor is also held.

Barnabas Dyadi-Kamya, one of the accused policemen’s lawyers submitted that suspects have investigated several cases and could be harmed.

“We kindly request that you remand them to Kigo prison.”

However Chief Magistrate Karemani was not convinced by the reasoning and he ceremoniously banged the table to signal that he had adjourned court to May 30.

The officers are charged with torture contrary to section 4 of the Prevention and Prohibition of Torture Act 2012.

They were also charged with causing grievance harm contrary to section 219 of the Penal Code Act.

The suspects however  denied torturing the Kamwenge mayor, Byamukama after they arrested him in connection to the killing of salin AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Pictures of Mr Byamukama while nursing life threatening wounds have been making rounds with some people calling for the closure of Nalufenya where Byamukama is believed to have been tortured.
