Makerere University students who staged a demonstration to protest Dr Stella Nyanzi’s bail denial have finally secured temporary freedom.
This was after Buganda Road grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu released the four students on bail all
The four had been arrested two weeks ago while demonstrating outside court for the release of Dr Stella Nyanzi.
They include; Roy Rugumayo, Edmund Kahigi, Stephen Ariho and Hanington Mugarura.
The students had earlier appeared in court and were denied bail something that prompted Dr NYanzi to unleash another wave of controversial posts in which she described President Museveni as “matako.”
Dr Nyanzi who expressed displeasure on Monday after the four were sent back to prison cited the same reasons that have prompted the court to grant the four students bail.
The students cried to the court that they were about to start their end of semester exams and therefore pleaded for freedom.
Their lawyer Isaac Semakadde Kimeze also pleaded for a non-cash bail considering that they are students and therefore have no source of income since they are unemployed.
The magistrate subsequently released them on a non-cash bail of Shs10 million.
Hearing of this matter commences on 30th May 2017.
