Since the death of Rich Gang’s Ivan Semwanga, there has been speculation over what killed the generous man from Kayunga who has been living in South Africa since 2002.

What is known is that Semwanga suffered a stroke and he was rushed to Steve Biko hospital in Pretoria where he breathed his last.

Although the cause of the stroke is not clear, we contacted experts to explain the condition that took Ivan’s life at just 40 years.

According to Dr Richard Kalungi, a general medical practitioner, a stroke is when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or reduced.

“It may be caused by a blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke),” Dr Kalungi explained.

An online medical journal indicates that when a stroke occurs it deprives the brain of oxygen and nutrients which can causes brain cells to die.

Meanwhile the people from Ivan’s home district of Kayunga continue to eulogize the fallen businessman with some describing him as a humane person who wanted to share his wealth with those in need.

Burial arrangements

Ahead of Ivan’s burial on Sunday, a committee has been set up in South Africa to coordinate the repatriation of Ivan Semwanga’s body.
