After an eventful day at the poll, Forum Democratic Change’s Salaam Musumba conceded to NRM’s Hajjat Rehema Watongola in Wednesday’s heated Kamuli Municipality by-election.
Preliminary tallies showed Watongola leading by 7073 votes against Musumba’s 4077 in 41 polling stations out of 58 a difference of 2996.
Musumba said on Wednesday evening, “Today we have seen a free and fair election. We have seen how independent out electoral commission is, and how professional our police are. I am happy and I feel liberated.”
Earlier in the day, Musumba was arrested at Kamuli Police Station where she had gone to report an assault case, after she was found transporting weapons in her car that included bows and arrows, a knife, catapults among others.
She was later on released without being charged, although police said after the election, they would pursue the case.
