Prince Kijanangoma kicked up a storm in Tooro Kingdom in 2015 after he convened a press conference in Fort Portal Town in which he declared himself the rightful king of Tooro, accusing his cousin [King Oyo] of abrogating the kingdom constitution and performing kingdom functions in Kampala.

Now the defiant prince has yet again announced that he will be crowned in April this year.

While addressing journalists at Rwengoma palace, Kijanangoma said he waited for the Tooro Elders Forum meeting whether it could help in solving problems in the kingdom.

“I have realized that the elders’ forum was just a business forum that may pour cold water on the kingdom challenges,” he said.

Kijanangoma claimed that mismanagement of Kingdom affairs prompted and royals to front him to take up the throne.

He further alleged that the sprits of the kingdom are not happy which explains why King Oyo fears to stay in the kingdom.

Early last year, Prince Kijangangoma declared himself King of Tooro after accusing the reigning King who is his cousin of abdicating the throne.

Since his declaration, Police has repeatedly frustrated his activities.

He has since vowed that even government will not stop him until the objective is fulfilled.

The Tooro kingdom spokesperson Mr Kennedy Gusalire said they don’t recognize Kijanangoma and is not an issue in the Kingdom.

“Kijanangoma can’t be a king unless the government grants him that authority. By law only king Oyo is recognized.

We want the people of Tooro to desist propaganda being spread by such people with selfish interests”said Gusalire.

Prince Kijanangoma accuses his cousin King Oyo of alleged incompetence.

He bases his claim on the throne by a will of former King Sir George Rukidi which he says it among others should a King fail his duties or falls short of the expectations of his subjects, other princes in lineage can take over.

Prince David George Kijanangoma is a member of the royal clan, the Babiito. He is the son of late Paul Christopher Kijanangoma and Susan Ruth Kugonza Banks. Late Paul Kijanangoma was the eldest son of Sir George Rukidi, the former King of Tooro.

Prince David George Kijanangoma is also the younger brother of Happy Kijanangoma, who was shot dead in Fort Portal in 1999.
