Idi Amin 1-0 Museveni: Kizza Besigye says President Museveni’s done less in 30-year reign

Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, on Sunday lauded former Ugandan president Idi Amin, saying his eight-year leadership was more developmental than President Museveni’s 30-year reign. The late Idi Amin ruled Uganda from 1972 to 1979.

“Although he was not highly educated, he left tangible things some of which have been destroyed by this government. He bought houses for all our embassies in Europe and America which have been sold by this government,” Dr Besigye said.

He was speaking at a duwa organised for the late Yasin Isiko, 34, at Iyirimbi village, Mazuba Sub-county in Namutumba District. Isiko’s body was found lying by the roadside in Lugazi Town Council, Buikwe District, last month. The deceased was a famous FDC mobiliser in Busoga region.

Beating security

Dr Besigye, for the third time since this year started, beat a 24-hours security surveillance in Kampala and travelled to Namutumba District for late Isiko’s memorial event. He asked residents to remain strong and resist bad policies ushered by the NRM government.

“The struggle is not about Besigye, it is about the conditions in which our people leave. Even if I died in the struggle like the many people who died, it should continue until our country is free,” Dr Besigye said.

He was accompanied by former leader of opposition Wafula Ogutu and head of mobilisation Igrid Turinawe.

The deceased Isiko Yasin left five children and Besigye pledged to offer education and other support to one of the children. He also contributed Shs500,000 as condolence to support the family of the deceased.
